Year 2 Den Building

Here at Castle View we wholeheartedly believe that children do best when they get to apply their learning in real life context, a great example of this is when year 2 learned how structures can be stronger and more stable by building dens.

Before building their dens they used an aerial view of the area to find the correct route. They then identified physical and human features and devised their own key for the map. When they arrived the group began their task by collecting sticks of different sizes, the children used bigger sticks and leaned them on the wishing stone and also dug them into the ground to make them more stable. Then added smaller sticks to our dens. Finally the children added a tarpaulin to make the dens waterproof and windproof. Have a look through our gallery.
